Our Story
This course sort of just happened. I moved with my hubby & three sons to Vermont from Colorado. My oldest, DSM, had to leave his successful experience in a Montessori school to enroll at an old-school, traditional, yet respectable, Public School. He (and I!!!) were bummed. The problems began instantly…I didn’t know what to do. Problems that previously didn’t exists at school, but at home (figure that out) started immediately- he was “active,” unhappy…on & on.
I don’t blame him for being frustrated– he sort of felt like he’d lost “control” over his own life– a life in which many small decisions had always been up to him. We worked hard to switch up his environment and focus on the positives.
At the same time, in a random-but-hopeful effort, I attended a Parenting on Track workshop, which was hosted at his elementary school. Right away, I recognized remembered that his life wasn’t about me controlling him. His life was his and I needed to give him more space to make a mess, screw up, learn about money, try big-boy things and so forth. Having been a Montessori mom, I already believed in those principles but I didn’t know how to really bring them home and create a family dynamic around them. And so, here I am with the 12 week home course.
My goal? To look at parenting in a fresh way, lay some fresh track on the roadmap and learn real-life strategies for getting my three boys out the door at 18. When they leave, I want them to not only have the skills to take on the world but the skills to know how to move on when things don’t go as planned.

Hi there…. I saw you on twitter about the au pair program, and am so new to the au pair program I have no idea whether the message I am sending is going through. I would be happy to tell you more about the au pair program. I am a host mom too. This parentingontrack is fascinating. I am going to check it out. We go to a co-op preschool and follow Alfie Cohen somewhat… Anyway, you can reach me at 310-283-3521… or southbayaupairs@yahoo.com.
